Longford, Australia. 10 December 2024: Leading gas and engineering company BOC, a Linde company, has today opened the South Pacific region’s largest merchant carbon dioxide (CO2) processing facility in Longford, Victoria.

The new facility will have the capacity to produce more than 60,000 tonnes of beverage-grade liquid CO2 annually and will bolster supply for many Australian industries including medical, food processing, beverage, hospitality, and manufacturing.

Theo Martin, Managing Director of Linde South Pacific and Head of BOC, said the facility was working through its commissioning phase and would start supplying customers in the new year.

"BOC is proud to showcase our new CO2 production facility in Longford today, which will significantly increase BOC’s national CO2 production capacity and improve reliability of supply to our customers, particularly those on the east coast of Australia. It will also have capacity to back up other parts of our supply chain across Australia and New Zealand.

“Beverage-grade CO2 from this facility will be distributed to bulk customers in high volume markets such as food processing and dairy, and to many different industries – from fast food outlets, brewers and soft drink makers, right through to hospitals and water treatment facilities.

“This modern facility features the latest Linde technologies and quality control processes to provide the highest standard of CO2 to our customers. We are grateful for the support of the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture, local community, project team and contractors for helping us reach this milestone.”

The new facility is underpinned by a long-term supply agreement with the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture (GBJC), a 50-50 joint venture between Esso Australia Resources Pty Ltd (Esso) and Woodside Energy Pty Ltd. Under the agreement, GBJV will capture and send CO2 from its Longford Gas Conditioning Plant directly to BOC's new facility where it will be processed for use across medical, food processing, beverage, hospitality, and manufacturing applications.
